Bike Party Filming this Friday / No More Brandon Horn

Salty Samurai Studios' own Sheldon Steere, along with Producer / Director Stephanie Emerson, and Producer / Director Roth Rind will be filming the mass bicycling event "San Jose Bike Party" this Friday. Look for us with our camera truck, camera rig set up on a bike, and a camera set on the back of someone's trailer. Filmed interviews will be conducted during the first meet up, and possibly at the last one as well. If shooting goes well, the footage will end up being used in our Bike Party Promotional Video being coordinated by Stephanie Emerson, who helps volunteer and set up the Bike Parties each month.

In other news, due to scheduling conflicts and filming delays, Sheldon Steere will no longer be working on the picture "Who is Brandon Horn?" but wishes the production the best of luck with the rest of it's filming. Look for it on the West Valley College's website for the movie showing times. It should be completed and ready for viewing by about February, and shown that month.

The Good, The Bad, and The Zombies - First Poster

Salty Samurai Studios' own Sheldon Steere made a photoshop poster for the big movie project we are currently working on. Look for it in 2012.

Andalay Solar Commercial Project?

Salty Samurai Studios' own Sheldon Steere has been talking with Akeena Solar, Inc. about producing commercials for their new line of Andalay AC Solar Panels. Nothing concrete has been formed yet, but there are talks of doing a few commercials and possibly a longer video for trade show presentations. Storyboarding will begin early 2010 after the installation rush, and filming will take place so that the films can be done before the summer season of trade shows, seminars, and solar parties.

If you don't know what Andalay AC Solar Panels are, you should look into them, they are the new panel being produced by Akeena Solar, Inc. With an ordinary solar panel, you have to worry about inverters, racking, all sorts of annoying cabling, complicated roof mounting, AC and DC disconnect switches, etc, whereas with Andalay AC Panels, all of the racking, mounting, inverter, and switches are integrated into the panel. This is the future of solar panels, today, because it literally makes Solar Panels something you could buy in a supermarket with the right tools. Up until recently solar panels were a complicated venture encompassing tons of paperwork, installation and labor costs, materials, city building and electrical permits, fire code regulations, etc, whereas Andalay Solar is trying to get away from all that, and make it something you can buy and install just like your washing machine or an air conditioner. That's why this product is so innovative, and why Salty Samurai Studios is excited to be able to work with them and promote this exciting new product.

Who is Brandon Horn?

Salty Samurai Studios' own Sheldon Steere, Mohammad Harirsaz, and Kelly Miller are now working on a low budget student production by Boran Vukajlovic, sponsored by West Valley College, entitled "Brandon Horn is a JERK!" one of the segments of the "Who is Brandon Horn?" project. The project is the brainchild of professor William Clay, who decided he wanted to create a class based around building a feature production with 4 different directors creating 4 different films that will come together to create one combined project which will be showcased at the West Valley Theater. Pre-production begun in March, and filming started this month. (Production stills available in previous post.) Sheldon Steere is the director of photography on the "Brandon Horn is a JERK!" segment, and Mohammad Harirsaz and Kelly Miller are running the sound production for the feature. Filming is scheduled to be completed by the end of January, and a final cut will be available hopefully by March 2010.

Stills from Brandon Horn shoots

Sound production on this feature is also done by Salty Samurai Studios' Mohammad Harirsaz and Kelly Miller. Look for more production stills in the future as shooting continues.

San Jose Bike Party Project?

Producer / Director Stephanie Emerson, who volunteers with the community organized bicycle party San Jose Bike Party (http://www.sjbikeparty.org) has been asked to work on a film project based around promoting the San Jose Bike Party event in order to teach riders about proper riding safety procedures, and encourage new riders to come to the event. There are no concrete details yet, but Salty Samurai Studios' own Sheldon Steere has been asked to help whenever filming starts. Sheldon Steere has been doing Bike Party rides for the last few months and wants to encourage other Bay Area bikers to come, as Bike Party is probably one of the most fun and rewarding things in the South Bay.

For anyone who doesn't know what San Jose Bike Party is, it is a free community Bicycle ride every 3rd Friday of every month at 8:00PM. There is a monthly theme, and every month is a different ride. (the ride is announced the day of) The ride can be anywhere from 20-40 miles, but it is usually all flat, and you are usually accompanied by wild riders blasting music and screaming "Bike Paaaarty!!!" to keep you as pumped as possible, so it's surprisingly easier to get to the end than you'd think. Whether or not you want to follow the theme, or even ride the route is completely up to you, and people often will go their own way after the first or second pit stop, but riding to the end is encouraged, as it is really great exercise. All ages and types are invited, and I have seen everyone from casual riders to families on tandem bikes with small children to people on unicycles to people carting an entire couch and surround speakers behind them! It really is the most diverse group you will see partying together, and I would say it is a once in a lifetime event except that it happens EVERY MONTH! And each month gets even better!

New Google Voice Number!

Salty Samurai Studios now has a Google Voice Phone #! "Google Voice gives you a single phone number that rings all your phones, saves your voicemail online, and transcribes your voicemail to text. Other cool features include the ability to listen in on messages while they are being left and the ability to make low cost international calls. To start enjoying Google Voice, just give out your Google Voice number. You can record custom greetings for your favorite callers or block annoying callers by marking them as SPAM."

In case you're wondering, our new Google Voice Phone # is (910) DOG-WARS

Filmed Commercial for CupsandCakesBakery.com

Salty Samurai Studios' own cinematographer, Sheldon Steere, along with Director / Producer Stephanie Emerson, and actors Kimberly Pace and Matt Arakaki worked together to film a commercial for local cupcake maker Cups and Cakes Bakery. The commercial was filmed like an old school drug PSA, however instead of drug contraband, the contraband ends up being the delicious cupcake. It should be completed as soon as the motion graphics and color correction are completed. Look for it soon on YouTube and the Cups and Cakes Bakery website.

Finished Insurance Salesman Scene

Today's shoot was the easiest yet. We got there about 2:30PM and finished about 3:30PM. Adam did a great insurance salesman. Big thanks to Mary and Dave Olson for letting us use their study. The only thing left now is B-Roll and to finish editing and we'll have a finished movie!

Finished Army Colonel Scene

Today's shoot was amazingly fun. We got to West Valley College about 7:00PM and finished shooting at 1:00AM. It was really fun setting up the set, having access to West Valley College's entire theatre prop department. As you can see, we had plenty of set pieces to use. Boran Vukajlovic and Roth Rind did amazingly in the roles as the Colonel and the Army Soldier. I'd like to thank Gerald Carter for letting us use the West Valley theater to film. 1 scene left!!!

Finished Spider Web Scene

Another day of filming. Geoffrey Adams came up from Riverside, CA for a special appearance as "The Guy Hanging Upside Down." Got to Matthew Olson's house at 2:00PM today and wrapped up shooting at about 11 PM. It was an arduous, stuffy afternoon, with everyone wrapped up in fake cobweb in a hot garage, but morale stayed pretty high, and all the scenes were shot. After spending the past few days making the spider web, I'd like to thank everyone's efforts in getting it all finished and looking professional! Helping put together the set were: Kelly Miller, Shana Hagood, Matt Olson, Sheldon Steere, Becky Olson, and Boran Vukajlovic. I'd also like to thank Mary and Dave Olson for letting us use their garage. Shoot is going as planned. 2 more scenes left to finish and we should be all done!

Finished Tarantula and Scientist Scenes

Another day of filming went great! Got to Gunderson High School at 8:00AM today and wrapped up shooting at 10:10AM. The science lab scenes and the giant tarantula in the town have been shot and look great! After spending this entire past week on the miniature town, I'd like to thank everyone's efforts in getting it all finished and looking professional! Helping put together the set were: Daniel Szymski, Dennis Slominski, Kelly Miller, Matt Olson, Sheldon Steere, Stephanie Emerson, Boran Vukajlovic, Matt Cross, and Mohammad Harirsaz. I'd also like to thank Rob Iverson for letting us use his science lab. Also finished was all the editing for the scenes we've completed so far. Shoot is going as planned. 3 more scenes left to finish and we should be done the movie!

Finished Classroom Scene

Filming today went great, we had 8 extras show up, and got into Los Gatos High School by 12:00PM, and got out before 3:00PM. I'd like to thank everyone who showed up: Stephanie Emerson, Josh Langland, Mike Willis, Adam Popovich, Dorothy Louise, Daniel Campbell, Kevin Brasher, Richard Abalos, Dennis Slominski, Anthony Baca, Roth Rind, and Sheldon Steere. I'd also like to thank Brendan Nystedt for letting us shoot in the classroom.

Finished Boardroom, Newsroom, and Street Scenes

Filming this weekend went amazingly for the first shoot. Wrapped up 3 key scenes with the help of Marc Smith, Boran Vukajlovic, Matt Olson, Geva Whyte, Sheldon Steere, Daniel Szymski, and Kevin Brasher. I'd also like to thank David Comfort at Akeena Solar for letting us use their boardroom, and Daniel Szymski at PropertyMinder for letting us use their boardroom. I'd also like to thank Robert Peck Productions and Roth Rind at Silicon Valley Film Studios for letting us use their dolly and tripod. If shooting keeps up like this, this movie is going to look amazing.
